Cop traded shots with armed men inside bar

A policeman and two armed men were brought to different hospitals following a shootout that ensued about 12:10 a.m. on September 20 in this city.
 
Chief Inspector Anthony Padua, Digos City police director in a spot report submitted to the PNP provincial headquarters identified the injured policeman as Police Officer 3 Ervin Kim Malcampo.
Malcampo was tasked to conduct surveillance operation at Station 24 – a drinking bar situated along the corners of Rizal Avenue and Luna Extension Street , to verify reports about the presence of armed men.
 
Minutes after Malcampo arrived two armed men pulled their respective firearms and fired at the policeman hitting his jaw.
 
Although, blood was oozing through his wounds in the mouth Malcampo was able to return fire using his 9mm service pistol hitting his attackers who immediately fled onboard their respective motorcycles, the report said.
 
Responding police operatives immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation that led to the arrest of the wounded suspects.
 
Padua identified them as Brandie Campaner, 29, a janitor, and a resident of Purok 5, Barangay Aplaya, Digos City . The second suspect was named as John Philip Lopez Solomon, a resident of Purok Manga, Mabini Extension Street , Digos City .
 
The police recovered an M11 Ingram sub-machinegun with 20 9mm live ammunitions in its magazine. The gun is allegedly owned by Campaner who was caught hiding in the midst of banana plants at the back of Solomon’s house.
 
Malcampo was rushed to Digos Doctor’s Hospital, while the police brought Solomon to Sunga Hospital due to a bullet wound at his butt.
 
Campaner who was reported to sustain fatal wounds in the body was referred to Davao Medical Center in Davao City after receiving initial treatment at provincial hospital in Digos City .
 
Police Officer 1 Bimbo Labajo, Digos City police investigator said they are still verifying the affiliations of the suspects for their possessions of such caliber of firearms including the motive behind their assault to one of their police officers in the city.
