A teacher beating the loss time for an early morning meeting failed to reach the jump off venue when the motorcycle he was driving collided with another motorcycle along the national highway of Barangay Leling, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur at about 6 a.m. on Friday.
Police Officer 3 Jose Mari Aznar, Hagonoy police traffic investigator identified the fatalities as Franklin Alcoba Billones, 44, an Alternative Learning System (ALS) district coordinator; and Domingo Munda Gloria, 53.
The victims are “kumpare” and both residents of Barangay Lapulabao, Hagonoy town.
The traffic officer said Billones who was driving a Honda XRM motorcycle roared its engine at high speed while overtaking a freight truck heading to the North.
When Billones was already at the left lane he slammed head on into a Yamaha Crypton motorcycle running at the opposite direction.
“The motorcycles are totally wrecked due to the impact of the collision,” Aznar said.
Aznar said the worst thing is the duo are “kumpare” and living at the same village.
Alfeo Ingay, DepEd ALS regional supervisor said they were waiting for Billones at their jump-off point in Digos City where they will proceed onboard another vehicle bound for Malita town.
“We are supposed to be conducting a regional assessment test for ALS students, and attend a literacy program with the regional staff,” Ingay said.
Carmen Billones, the victim’s wife who is also a public school teacher said her husband was in a hurry since he was already late on the agreed time of convergence in Digos City .
“He was already 30 minutes late when he gets out of our house. He could be trying to recover the loss time, hence he was driving too fast,” the teary wife said.
Lapulabao is more than 20 kilometers to Digos City . |
