Digos flood kills 1, sweep 3 houses

Rescue group from the City Disaster Coordinating Council (CDCC) retrieved a body of a man floating along the coastline of Barangay Aplaya following the flashflood that hit the area since Sunday afternoon.
Glenn Ferrer, CDCC Responders’ team leader and chapter president of Kabalikat Rescue and Communications who led the retrieval operation said nobody in the area could identify the victim.

“What we have is an arrow tattoo on his right arm. We did not found any identification from his body,” Ferrer said.

The victim is about 25 to 30 years old.

Reynaldo Caballero, CDCC executive officers said the strong flood current from the Digos River could have swept the man from nearby barangays of the city or elsewhere and finally drift towards the coast of Aplaya.

Caballero said three thatched huts beside the river in Sitio Abono were brushed off by the rampaging floodwater on its way to the shores.

The CDCC named the owners of the huts as Susan Andoy, Maria Victoria Meñosa, and Gerry Caballero.

They managed to get out before the strong current of floodwater swept their houses.

They are now among the six families temporarily housed at the barangay hall of Aplaya.
