Strong current of floodwater that overflowed from Digos River swept three houses in Sitio Abono, Barangay Aplaya on Sunday afternoon, the city disaster coordinating council (CDCC) said.
Reynaldo Caballero, CDCC executive officer said the occupants managed to get out of their respective houses before the floodwater drifted it to the sea.
He said CDCC members, the City Fire Bureau, Kabalikat Volunteer Group and the City Social Welfare Office personnel immediately went to the area to monitor the extent of the damage and to vacate the affected residents into higher grounds.
At least six families were brought to the Barangay Hall for safety.
One of the victims was transported to a hospital after complaining of high fever, Caballero said.
Caballero said although the water is only knee-deep but the current is too strong to be ignored.
“The knee-deep water also reached the grade school premises of Aplaya,” he said. |
