Fire gobbles house
Written by Eldie S. Aguirre
Sunday, 20 July 2008
Firefighters failed to contain the flame that engulfed a residence in Barangay North Paligue, Padada, Davao del Sur, the other day.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Padada identified the owner as Angelito Montejo.

Montejo had just left from the house to report for his job when the fire sparked.

Fire investigators said un-subdued firewood used in cooking his food that day could have started the fire that gobbled the entire house made of combustible materials.

Meanwhile, Police Insp. Wilfredo Racoma, Sulop police chief set aside the possibility of a foul play over the death of a 72-year old woman who sustained third degree burns while burning leftover of the newly harvested sugarcane farm.

Guillerma Candones died inside the medical center in Davao City.

Racoma said investigators concluded it was purely an accident. Candones fell into a hole in the midst of the sugarcane farm where she was trapped when the flame engulfed the area.

The incident prompted the police to warn elderly to coordinate with their relatives and barangay officials when doing similar activities to avoid the occurrence of the same accident in the future.
