A shoe-repairman occupying a stall in the city satellite terminal wrote a suicide note for his girlfriend, drink a bottle of beer before ingesting liquid pesticide to end his boredom in life on Wednesday morning.
However, the unconventional odor of Malathion inside the market has alerted adjacent vendors who immediately searched for its origin where they found Arthur Luna inside stall D-12 lying on the floor and chasing his breath.
Market guards rushed Luna to the provincial hospital where he was treated and declared out of danger few hours later.
Senior Police Officer 2 Esdras de los Santos said the incident took place at around 11 a.m. of July 16 at the New Satellite Terminal in Barangay Aplaya, Digos City.
Investigators recovered an empty beer bottle, some cigarettes, and a 100 ml bottle of Malathion 57 EC – a brand of pesticide used as pest repellant in agricultural farms.
De los Santos said Luna ingested at least one-third of its content that could kill him if nobody had noticed what he did.
A pocket notebook where a suicide note addressed to his girlfriend was also recovered inside the stall.
Luna expressed his unwavering love to his lover and said he is already bored with his life in his suicide note.
On the other hand, Ricardo Briones, a 48-year old farmer of Barangay Kabasagan, Matanao, Davao del Sur ended his life on the afternoon of Wednesday.
Briones shot himself in the breast using a .357 handgun where investigators said it sparked from a family problem.
