Village official ‘shoot’ girl, 15

The police arrested a village official in Jose Abad Santos, Davao del Sur who ‘accidentally’ shot a 15 year old girl on Monday.

Senior Police Officer 2 Louie Tayong, Jose Abad Santos police investigator identified the suspect as Mario Ferrer, a councilor of Barangay (village) Mangulibas.

Ferrer told the police he was cleaning his homemade .22 caliber handgun inside his resident in Sitio (sub-village) Kibaliyok, Barangay Mangulibas when it went off and hit the left shoulder of the girl who happened to be in the house.

Rosalyn Mansibad, the victim sustained a critical wound in the body and still confined at Tomas Lachica District Hospital in Jose Abad Santos.

The parents of the victim have no plans to file charges against Ferrer, but asked financial assistance to pay the hospital bills and buy medicines for their daughter.

Tayong said the police will still file charges for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition against the village official for his failure to show pertinent documents allowing him to possess a handgun.

The police confiscated the handgun from Ferrer and recovered the slug that hit the girl at the crime scene. (With reports from Marlon Gayog)
