President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo would be the keynote speaker to the culmination program of 41st founding anniversary of Davao del Sur on July 01 at the capitol gymnasium.
Governor Douglas Cagas confirmed the attendance of the President to the said event as he reported that cabinet secretaries will be in attendance where a cabinet meeting would be conducted in a still undisclosed venue.

The governor said PGMA is set to visit the town of Jose Abad Santos for an ocular inspection to the proposed coastal road that would link Davao del Sur to Glan, Sarangani Province.

Internal sources said the proposed concrete road would cost at least P1.4 million.

House Representative for District 2 Franklin Baustista, in a media interview during the opening program of the 9-day festivities for the 41st founding anniversary of the province said President Arroyo has approved the implementation of the project.

In Barangay Balangunan, Jose Abad Santos town, Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Leandro Mendoza had expressed his commitment to prioritize the construction of a P250 million Roll-On-Roll-Off (RORO) seaport.

In an interview with councilor Junius Wangkay the port will be named ‘Diosdado Macapagal Port’ in honor of the late President Diosdado Macapagal – PGMA’s father, who was the first president of the country to set foot on the beach of the town when he was president.

Upon its completion, the port will serve the Manado, Indonesia to Sarangani, Davao del Sur and to Jose Abad Santos and vice versa route, forecasted to bolster trade and industry in the area.

The creation of Jose Abad Santos, Glan, and Sarangani Province-Cooperation Triangle (JAGS-CT) boost the infrastructure development in the Southern part of the province, Wangkay said. (With reports from Nilo Mercado and Marlon Gayog)
