President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo offered the chairmanship of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC-11) to Davao del Sur Governor Douglas Cagas.
Cagas admitted in a media interview, the President is grooming him to become the next regional peace and order czar but “he is keeping his options, as of the moment, knowing that the gargantuan task over the ‘shoulder’ of an RPOC chair.”
“They told me that I’ve been designated (as RPOC-11 chairman), Cagas said referring to Ms. Arroyo and DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno.
“But I have not yet received documents of my designation, aside from my personal conversation with the President and Secretary Puno who told me about it,” Cagas said.
The governor said ‘he is taking (his) time’ before he would finally accept the offer.
“I have to prepare myself with my plans before calling a council meeting. And the President instructed me to prepare a draft to amend Executive Order 366 - the law or order that created or mandated the creation of the Regional Peace and Order Council,” Cagas added.
A vacuum in the RPOC-11 leadership shaped up following the resignation of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as its chairman, few months ago.
